I have been a certified financial planner since 2008, and have been practicing financial planning since 2004. I graduated from Tulane University with a degree in finance and but before I could utilize my knowledge, my commitment to the U.S. Navy had me attending nuclear power & supply corp. school. Then deploying for 8 months on the Nimitz.
Any time something breaks in my home, the discussion between a need vs a want tends to get confusing. Recently, my wife and I had a major break down over what seemed like all major appliances. The washing machine broke, the dishwasher stopped doing its job and my microwave……well, the microwave caught on fire. I have to admit that I saw it let off little sparks here and there for a couple of months prior, but it was heating things up just fine.
Buying a home is an emotional thing which is why hearing from my clients that they’re purchasing a new home causes me pain. I have seen the purchase of a home throw a family into a financial spiral.
What’s up dad’s?
I’m not saying that if you’re a woman you can’t read this; for this one, I am talking to the dads out there. I’m gonna be honest – it’s a confusing time out there for us dads. I am trying to find a place where I fit in here, don’t mind me.
I’m just a man trying to make the women in my life happy. Within reason, of course. It took me a long time to figure out that being a man in this world is not a god-given talent. I had to hone in on learning some new skills directly related to my wife. For better or for worse, the main job I have in my house is to be the financial leader.
All the time I see new dads just gushing over their brand new baby girls. It’s almost like the love is flowing right out of him into this little girl. It is a beautiful thing to see and from what I have experienced, it is one of the most wonderful feelings on earth. But guess what, dad – she is getting married and that is going to cost you a lot of money.

Learning to be a father and husband is a real struggle.
Trying to figure yourself out while you are trying to figure out the women you love is a real confusing time. My wife and I got together in our early twenties. At that point in time, the only thing I knew about relationships was the vision my parents had provided me. You eventually learn that what you see from the sample your parents give you is not the whole picture.

Studies show that the more choices we have to make the more we want to go into a little corner and only stick to the things we know. It is just who we are as human.
I plan to jump in on this debate but not quite the way you think I will. Let me start by saying I am personally a product of public schooling. We can argue whether or not my school adequately prepared me for life, but I would like to think that most people would point to me and say, he did alright.
I cannot stand debt. There is no doubt about it I cannot stand it. I personally think that having debt controls you to the point that you can’t live the best kind of life you can live.
