I am going to be honest with you, America. When it comes to spending, you really need to pick just one vice. Choosing one vice should be like a choosing someone to marry. You pick one man or one woman and you commit. That sexy watch may be calling your name, but you’re already taken and it’s not the same satisfaction as you get from your one vice.
Your one vice has it all.
- The looks
- The body
- The shine
The stares you get from other people when they look at your vice and think to themselves “Now that’s a vice!”
Now obviously, as a financial advisor, I would advise you not to have any vice. But, that would make me a hypocrite. The whole point of this blog post is to be authentic and me stating that I don’t have a vice would make me a liar.
Nothing is more annoying than when someone declares their love for all of their different vices.
I have to have the newest IPhone!
I just love Louis Vuitton’s!
I got to have them brand new LeBron’s man. My life won’t be the same without them.
I could sit here and make fun of all of you for those love’s I just mentioned. Especially you iPhone freaks……DROID! But I won’t because I understand.
I understand when you love something so deep, it is hard to live without. However, when you have too many things that you can’t live without, it tends to blow up your budget.
For instance, if you have expensive taste when it comes to cars, it is hard to also have an expensive taste when it comes to your home.
If you have to have an expensive house, but also can’t live without expensive shoes and purses.
You should consider setting up an account called the vice account and put money in it every month if all these examples sound like you. This is helpful when you need to set up a budget and at the same time can’t live without your vice – place your vice on a budget.
For me personally, I only have one vice that I have to have. The only vice that I am dreaming about right now. The one that I whisper, “make me feel good.” The only one that I can’t wait till April 15th to have. The reason why I can’t be vegan and have to consider myself plant based.
Oh yes, DA WINE!
Sure, there is vegan wine out there, but when it comes to wine, I don’t want to limit myself. Imagine my surprise when I found out that some wine wasn’t vegan. I didn’t want to hear of it. That is like my wife having “the talk” with my daughters. I choose being deaf for 10 minutes please.
Yes, my vice is wine. And yes, she’s got body. Yeeeelp! And I can’t just have any kind of wine. No, no, I will not subject my mouth to such filth as Yellow Tail. If I am going to mess up my liver, it’s GOT to be top of the line stuff. I say if I am going to slowly kill myself with something, it better be some good stuff. But my vice, is on a budget. It also pays to have friends who also have expensive taste in wine. That way, I can share mine and we can drink theirs. And there is literally nothing better than staring into another man’s eyes while I drink his wine. By the way, If you are one of my friends and you don’t have good wine when I come to your house, go ahead and head over to the kiddie table.
I literally could go all day about this and probably write a book about my love affair with wine. As my wife stands awkwardly next to me. What!? Her name is Caymus and she is not hideous. But seriously, this is the reason I gave up wine for roughly 3 months.
My vices don’t control me.
I enjoy wine but I am not dependent on it. I can hang out with my friends and have a good time without popping open a bottle of wine, and we can have just as much fun.
OK, I miss it but it doesn’t control me. I will probably do this every single year because I love the way my body feels and I love how much energy I have when I skip wine for a few months. Hopefully, I have a reset on how much wine I was drinking because I was having a glass every night…….Damn it – Okay, 2 glasses. This authentic thing sucks. And as my “friends” send me pictures of themselves drinking wine without me, I know that I can drink a little less and still one day be out there enjoying a great bottle in no time.
Controlling your vice is more important than anything. My wife and children are so much more important to me. I want them to be financially safe in our home. I want them to know that nothing controls their father other than their mother. Most importantly, I want to show my wife, that I can in fact, do without for the benefit of the family. And sometimes, we need to remind each other and ourselves that we are in full control of our actions. So, my question to you is; what vice are you going to choose to do without? And what vice are you going to choose to put on a budget?
